MeT forecasts light rain, snow

Srinagar, Feb 26: The Meteorological Department has forecast light rain and snow at scattered to fairly widespread places in Jammu and Kashmir from Monday night to Tuesday forenoon.

The MeT officials said, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected on February 28 and 29, with the possibility of light rain and snow at isolated places.

   

From March 1 to 3, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and snow at most places, with heavy rain and snow expected at a few middle and higher reaches during March 2 and 3.

The officials said that a few places may experience thunder, lightning, and hailstorms accompanied by gusty winds during this period.

Meanwhile, the night temperature has recorded a fall at a few places and a slight rise in a few others.

Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2 degrees Celsius, which was below normal by 2 degrees Celsius for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, 2.6 degrees Celsius below normal.

Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 7 degrees Celsius, 3.5 degrees Celsius below normal.

Kokernag recorded a minimum of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, below normal by 2.9 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara town recorded a low of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius, 3.5 degrees Celsius below normal.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 9 degrees Celsius. Jammu recorded a minimum of 7.9 degrees Celsius, below normal by 3.7 degrees Celsius.

Banihal recorded a low of 1.8 degrees Celsius, Batote 2.1 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah minus 0.4 degrees Celsius.

While the 40-day harsh period of winter Chillai Kalan ended on January 29 and the 20-day-long Chillai Khurd ended on February 18, Kashmir is currently experiencing the 10-day-long Chillai Bachha (baby cold), which would culminate on February 28.
