Srinagar Aug 13: A foreign LeT militant was killed while two security forces personnel and as many civilians were injured in a gunfight with security forces that broke out Thursday in Mir Bazar area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

“Killed terrorist(Usman) is Pakistani and identified as an associate of JeM top commander Lamboo @ Adnan who was recently killed in an #encounter. It confirms Pakistan’s involvement in attack on BSF convoy,” a police spokesperson tweeted Friday afternoon while quoting IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar.
Pertinently, Lamboo, whose real name was Ismail Alvi, was killed in a gunfight along with his associate in a forest area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama on July 31.
Police said Lamboo was from the family of top Pakistan based militant commander, Masood Azhar and had planned the February 14, 2019 suicide attack on a CRPF convoy in Lethpora area of Pulwama in which 40 personnel were killed.
Thursday’s gunfight broke out soon after two LeT militants fired at a BSF convoy on the Srinagar-Jammu highway and were later holed up in a nearby building in Malpora locality of Mir Bazar after being chased by the security forces.
Two civilians, a CRPF trooper and an army soldier were injured yesterday in the gunfight.
Police said that 22 civilians including 12 shopkeepers, six females including an elderly and four non-local laborers were evacuated safely from the building where the encounter broke out.
