MILITANT KILLINGS: Pulwama areas shut on second consecutive day

A complete shutdown was observed on the second consecutive day on Tuesday in various areas of Pulwama district including Tral, Aripal, Rajpora, Kakapora and Drubgam areas against the killing of three Jaish militants in a gunfight.

All shops, business establishments, government and private offices remain closed in these areas while public transport was off the roads. 

Three militants and five CRPF soldiers were killed in the 36-hour-long gun battle between militants and government forces after the former attacked CRPF training centre at Lethpora area of Awantipora on Monday.

The deceased militants were identified as Manzoor Ahmad Baba of Drabgam, Fardeen Ahmad Khandey of Nazneenpora while the third one remained unidentified.

A witness said that scores of people from different areas joined at slain militant’s home at Nazneenpora village of Tral sub-district and offered prayers for him.

Many religious scholars, pro-freedom leaders and locals throng Fardeen’s residence to express sympathy and solidarity with his family.

Meanwhile, authorities restored high internet speed in district Pulwama on Tuesday evening after they snapped the service on Sunday.
