Children are unlikely to be more infected in the 3rd COVID-19 wave as suggested by data from the first two waves, Director AIIMS, Delhi, Dr Randeep Guleria said on Monday.
“Data from 1st and 2nd waves are similar and suggest that children are protected, are less infected by COVID-19, ” Dr Guleria said in reply to a question at a press conference in New Delhi yesterday.
The Director of AIIMS New Delhi further said that even if the children are infected by the virus, it will be a “very mild” infection.
“And the virus is the same. So, there’s no indication that children will be more infected in 3rd wave, ” the Director AIIMS explained.
Dr Guleria pointed out the hypothesis backing the claim that the virus enters into the human body through ace receptors “and such receptors are relatively lessser in children”.
