‘Project Beacon worked relentlessly this winter to keep roads open’

Project Beacon of Border Roads Organization today said itworked relentlessly this winter to fight the heaviest snowfall in recent timesin Kashmir valley to keep the roads open.

“With our advance planning and strategic placement of snowclearance equipment, Project Beacon ensured that the road closure due to snowaccumulation is minimal on important Jammu – Srinagar Highway (Quazigund –Banihal section) and Jawahar Tunnel which is under Project Beacon,” it said ina statement.

   

“The other sections of Jammu – Srinagar National Highway arewith NHAI for its development to four lane specification, maintenance and snowclearance and BRO is working in full coordination with NHAI to ensure thatconnectivity to Kashmir valley is least disrupted,” it said.

“On Srinagar airfield, Project Beacon deployed state of theart imported snow clearance equipment and carried most of the operations duringnight to ensure zero closure of the runway. It was for the first time thatBeacon endeavoured to connect Gurez during peak winter month of January andalso successfully stage forwarded equipment to Sonamarg to facilitate earlyconnectivity to Leh and opening of Zojila.

“In all over one hundred snow clearance equipment werepressed into services. The efforts of Beacon have been appreciated by all asmost of their snow clearance operations were done in total synergy with thelocal civil administration to facilitate connectivity to local civil populationin far flung areas of Kashmir valley,” it said.
