Rains in plains, scattered snowfall in higher reaches

Srinagar, Apr 3:  Jammu and Kashmir witnessed fresh rains in the plains including Srinagar and scattered snowfall in some higher reaches.

The rainfall began to intensify across most parts of Kashmir on Wednesday evening, with higher areas like Sonamarg and Gulmarg experiencing scattered snowfall.

   

The Meteorological Department officials in Srinagar predicted scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain across J&K over the next 24 hours.

The MeT office said that the weather would remain partly to generally cloudy with light rain and snow at many places and the possibility of thunder or lightning towards the evening on Wednesday.

Dry weather is expected on April 4.

There is a chance of light rain or snow at isolated places on April 5, with dry weather forecast from April 6 to 10.

Farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations on April 3 and 5 due to the inclement weather.

The cloud cover led to improved temperatures, staying above normal in Kashmir.

Srinagar recorded a low of 8 degrees Celsius, higher than the 4.8 degrees Celsius recorded during the intervening nights of Tuesday and Wednesday, making it 1.6 degrees Celsius above normal.

Pahalgam saw a temperature of 2.5 degrees Celsius, up from 0.5 degrees Celsius the day before, which was 0.8 degrees Celsius above normal for the tourist spot in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Gulmarg settled at 2 degrees Celsius, compared to 0.4 degrees Celsius recorded the previous night, marking a 2.8 degrees Celsius above normal for the ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.
