Srinagar, Jan 1: Inhabitants of Sahoora village near Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have demanded road connectivity to their village.

A delegation of villagers told Greater Kashmir that this is a long pending demand of the locals but it is yet to be fulfilled by the concerned authorities.

“We have been demanding the construction of a road from ration mood to the village. Since there is no road connectivity, we are facing multiple issues on a daily basis,” said Wali Mohammad Bhat, a panch of the village.

He said that though they have taken up this issue in Back to Village (B2V) programmes a number of times but nothing happened till date.

“We have conveyed about this issue to SDM Uri and DC Baramulla as well but unfortunately it looks that they are not serious about constructing a road to our village,” Bhat said.

Ghulam Mohammad, an elderly local of the village said in absence of road connectivity, they have to walk at least three-four kilometres to reach the main road.

“We have to carry the essential commodities on our back especially in winters when this area remains under the blanket of heavy snowfall. Pregnant ladies and elderly people are also being carried on stretchers,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that in 2022, the local villagers wrote to the DC Baramulla about the lack of road connectivity in the village following which the DC marked the application to SE PMGSY Baramulla and directed him to examine it. Later it was forwarded to the Executive Engineer PMGSY Uri.

But in 2021, as per a document the R&B Department had kept the construction of this road in the plan. It said, “Construction/Upgradation of road from Upper Hathlanga to Soura with allied links (Phase 1st)”. However, the road is yet to be constructed.

When contacted, SDM Uri Jatin Kishore, said that he will look into the matter.
