Snow clearance work on Srinagar-Leh NH going on: BRO

Ganderbal, Mar 13: The snow clearance work on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway that started last week has been going on, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials said Wednesday.

Last week, the BRO started the snow clearance work on the Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway that connects Kashmir to Ladakh.

BRO’s Project Beacon is responsible for the maintenance and clearance of the road up to zero point near Zojila from Sonamarg side while BRO’s Project Vijayak clears the road from the Drass side.

An official of the 122 RCC Project Beacon said that the snow clearance had been started and that if the weather conditions remained favourable, they were hopeful that the road would be through within the next few days.

He said that various places were hit by multiple avalanches and the height of the snow there was above 15 feet.

An official of Project Vijayak said that they had almost connected the road up to zero point in Zojila from the Drass side and further clearance and clearance on sideways was going on.

The Srinagar-Leh National Highway was closed due to heavy snowfall in the last week of February.
