Kupwara, July 23: The students enrolled at Upper Primary School (UPS) Shatgund Balla have been suffering due to lack of drinking water for the last fifteen days with the result they are subjected to severe hardships.
Even school authorities are unable to serve mid-day meals to the students due to lack of drinking water. “Our children are not being served mid-day meals for the last fifteen days due to lack of drinking water at the school. During lunch break our children return to their homes and take lunch at their respective homes,” said a parent.
School washrooms are also without water causing immense hardships for staff and students.
Locals have urged the concerned department for immediate redressal of the problem so that the hardships being faced by the students and staff may end.
The residents have sought immediate intervention of Additional Deputy Commissioner Handwara Aziz Ahmad Rather in this regard.
Meanwhile Zonal Education Officer Mawer Abdul Ahad Lone told Greater Kashmir that the school was without water for the last four days. “Actually the service line which serves water to scores of households has developed a snag and new pipes are being laid. Within a few days the issue will be resolved, as informed by the Jal Shakti Department,” he added.
