Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Two J&K cricketers test COVID-19 positive

The two members of J&K T20 cricket squad have tested positive for COVID-19 in the first set of  COVID-19 tests conducted in Bangalore, officials said today.

The 33-member J&K T20 squad arrived in Bangalore on January 2 for participation in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. 

   

The COVID-19 test of all the members was conducted on Sunday morning as the team arrived in Bangalore late in Saturday. The results came out on Sunday evening. 

As per initial results, two cricketers have been declared positive for COVID-19. 

Though the identity of cricketers has not been revealed but it has been confirmed that duo belong to Jammu province. 

The whole squad has been kept in isolation and are likely to undergo another set of tests today or tomorrow. 

“We have been informed that two players have tested positive for COVID-19. The whole squad has been kept under isolation,” said a JKCA official. 

As this year T20 tournament is being conducted by BCCI under strict COVID SOPs, the squad is already undergoing mandatory quarantine before starting preparations, he said, adding: “With two players coming out positive, whole squad has been kept under isolation.”

J&K is scheduled to start its campaign against hosts Karnataka on January 10
