Two Pattan youth held with jewelry worth Rs 10 lakh stolen in central Kashmir’s Budgam

Srinagar Nov 11: Police on Thursday arrested two youth from Pattan area Baramulla district and recovered stolen jewelry worth Rs 10 lakh they stole from a jeweler in central Kashmir’s Budgam district two days ago.

A police spokesman said that on November 9, police post Soibugh received an application from one Showkat Ahmad Zargar son of Ghulam Nabi Zargar, a resident of Dambipora stating therein that some unknown burglars entered in his jewellery shop located at Main Chowk Soibugh and decamped with gold items approximately worth Rs 10 lakh.

   

Accordingly, a case FIR number 337/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police station Budgam and accordingly investigation set into the motion.

During the course of investigation, some CCTV footages were obtained on the basis of which a number of suspects were questioned.

While examining circumstantial evidence investigating team led by chowki officer Inspector Toufeeq zeroed in on two suspects namely Syed Zaffar Shah alias Zaffar Safari son of Syed Muzaffar Shah and Imran Hussain Malla son of Ghulam Mohammad Malla-both residents of Yakhmanpora Pattan in Baramulla were detained and during sustained questioning, they confessed their involvement in commission of the crime, police said.

Upon their disclosure the stolen property worth approximately Rs 10 lakh has been recovered which includes: 25 rings, 20 earrings, two double jhumkas, a brooch, two jhumkas, a choker set with top, two ear tops, nine jhumkas, and a chain with pendulum.

Both the accussed were subsequently arrested in the instant case and investigation is in progress even as more arrests and recoveries are likely in the case, police said.
