Ganderbal, Feb 18:  The higher reaches of Kashmir valley on Sunday witnessed fresh snowfall which led to the closure of the Srinagar-Leh National Highway.

The Zojila Pass along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway witnessed moderate snowfall while Sonamarg health resort in Ganderbal district witnessed light to moderate snowfall.

Officials said that about 1 foot of snow accumulated at Zojila Pass and Sonamarg, draping the scenic destination in a white blanket. Due to fresh snowfall, the traffic movement on the Zojila Pass was suspended given snow accumulated and slippery road conditions.

The traffic movement on Gagengar-Sonamarg Road was also disrupted.

Officials said that the traffic would be allowed after snow clearance following improvement in weather and clearance from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

Meanwhile, as per the traffic plan, on Monday no vehicle would be allowed on the Zojila axis due to fresh snow accumulation, continued snowfall, and slippery roads.

All commuters and drivers have been advised not to travel on the Zojila axis until clearance of the road.

There is extreme cold, freezing, and snow accumulation across Padum Darcha (Shinkula) Road due to which no vehicles would be allowed on the Shinkula axis until the road is cleared.
