Poor condition of road irks locals in Rajouri

Rajouri, Feb 22:  Poor condition of road between Darhal Bridge and Aitti in Rajouri town is irking the locals.

It is the main road from Rajouri town to Darhal and Thanamandi and also connects with Mughal Road.

Locals from locality near Darhal Bridge said that the road from Rajouri town to Thanamandi is under up-gradation but first five kilometres of the road work from Rajouri town is yet to be taken up.

They added that this first five kilometres stretch of the road is in severe dilapidated condition as Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has to construct a Byepass Road leaving beside old alignment. No maintenance and repair is being done.

Mohammad Azir from the area said that the road stretch of around 300 meters from Darhal Bridge to Thanamandi side is like a pond.

He added that a number of students and other people ride their two wheelers over this road for daily work. But these days they are unable to do so on the road because of the problem.

Other locals including Umar Ahmed said that no maintenance and repair is being carried out for this dilapidated stretch. Thousands of people are suffering on daily basis as vehicles from Thanamandi, Darhal and even Surankote reach Rajouri town via this stretch only.

Officials said that matter has been brought to their notice by the locals and is accordingly being taken up by the concerned agency, Border Roads Organisation.
