Srinagar, Nov 9: The grand finale of three-day moot court competition 2021 organized by Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Law Society, School of Law, Kashmir University is today.
This mega moot court contest witnessed fourteen teams of different private law colleges and a team from School of Law, KU.
During inaugural event on Monday, Sub-Judge Srinagar and Secretary District Service Legal Authority (DLSA) Srinagar Noor Mohammad asked law students to pick up practical skills while learning in colleges.
He asked them to skills can be picked up and polished through continuous practice and being part of internships and court visits. “Being the students of law means to know application and practicability of law on the ground. You (law students) should not be among those who wish for knowledge without experience. You should be able to run the hard mile and gain knowledge from all walks of life,’’ he added.
In his address, Prof Mohammad Ayub of School of Law, former Head and Dean School of Law, KU, asked students to pick up soft skills from competitions such as moot court.
He added that clinical type of legal education has proved as the most viable mode of producing intellectually nourished and professionally competent lawyers committed to the lofty ideals of justice.
“Real education is attained not merely by the amount of information one puts in one’s brain, one may have the whole library dumped into one’s heart but if you are not in a position to put the amount of knowledge into practice and assimilate ideas, you whole amount of stored knowledge is like undigested food in the stomach,” he said.
He said that students must take maximum advantage of these competitive moot courts and make it part of their experience to pick up skills.
“Fourteen teams from Kashmir are participating in the event. The mega competition is unique specially designed with an objective to train the students in the area of trial advocacy and to cultivate in them the art of presenting their arguments with the authority of law,” Course Coordinator, School of Law, KU, Dr Muhammad Yasin Wani, told Greater Kashmir.
