ASI killed in Bijbehera militant attack

Srinagar: Militants shot dead an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police on Wednesday evening in Bijbehera area of Anantnag in south Kashmir. Police said a search operation was launched to nab the attackers.

The slain ASI was identified as Muhammad Ashraf posted at Police Station Bijbehara Anantnag. The ASI was moved to hospital but succumbed on the way.

“Terrorists fired indiscriminately & critically injured a police personal ASI Mohd Ashraf of PS Bijbehara, Anantnag. He has been shifted to Srinagar based hospital for treatment. Area cordoned off. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice,” Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet.

Police said that militants opened indiscriminate fire on the ASI leaving him critically injured. “A search operation to crackdown militants is underway,” police said adding that additional reinforcement arrived at spot to assist already deployed troops.

“At about 1810hrs, unidentified terrorists fired upon ASI Mohammad Ashraf son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar resident of Awantipora near Police Station Bijbehara, Anantnag. In this terror crime incident, he received gunshot injuries and was immediately shifted to hospital for the treatment of his injuries, however he succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom,” police said.

“We pay our rich tributes to the martyr who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and stand by his family at this critical juncture,” police said.

“Police have registered cases regarding both the terror crime incidents. Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances leading to these terror crimes. The respective areas have been cordoned and search in these areas is going on” police said.
