COVID19: 3 deaths, 165 new cases in J&K

Srinagar: With the number of cases on rise in Kashmir, hospitals designated for COVID19 are having a surge in the number of admitted patients, many of them in Intensive Care Units. Three of these critically-ill patients lost life in J&K today, as another 165 new cases were reported.

J&K Government today said two COVID19 deaths were recorded in Kashmir division today. As per the official data, one of the deceased belonged to district Srinagar and the other to Baramulla district. With these deaths, the toll of the Virus in J&K till day reached 4448. In the past 10 days, since 01 November, 16 deaths have been recorded in J&K, due to the viral respiratory infection. Of these, 14 have lost life in Kashmir division. Nine of the deceased belonged to Srinagar district.

Today, three people, one belonging to district Srinagar and one to district Baramulla and one to Jammu lost their lives to SARS –CoV2. These included a 70 year old patient from Srinagar admitted in a GMC Srinagar hospital who breathed his last on Tuesday night, a doctor said. The deceased was admitted with severe COVID19 pneumonia and was unvaccinated, he said.

In the past two weeks, Kashmir division has seen a spurt in admissions in hospitals. A senior doctor said that the number of patients admitted at Chest Diseases Hospital had doubled over the past one month and currently, over 50 patients were admitted to the hospital and its annexes Kashmir Nursing Home. A doctor at the hospital said four patients were critical.

At DRDO COVID19 Hospital at Khanmoh, 34 patients were admitted currently, five of these in intensive care unit. A doctor at the hospital said that in the past 10 days, there have been 56 admissions to the hospital, as against 37 in the entire month of October.

The increasing number of cases is pushing up the admission rates and death toll, a senior doctor said. He said that although the numbers were still very low as compared to the Second Wave, “Nevertheless, Srinagar is having a very high positivity,” he said.

Today, 165 people tested positive for COVID19 in J&K, 147 of these inKashmir division and 18 in the Jammu division. District Srinagar had 68 new cases today, while 30 were reported from Baramulla district. District Budgam had 17 new cases.

The quantum of testing saw a major increase today and 52769 samples were tested. Although in terms of numbers, the day saw a slight increase in comparison to days earlier in the week, the proportion of samples found positive among the total tested remained the same. Today, 79419 doses of vaccine were administered in J&K, the bulletin said. Of these, 4743 were first doses.
