Highway remains closed

Ramban, June 16: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for traffic owing to weekly repairs on Wednesday. However, the emergency vehicles were allowed to move. The traffic remained suspended from early morning to facilitate road repairs between Nashri and Banihal on the highway in this district.

The work executing agencies used heavy machinery for excavation and earth cutting between Nashri and Banihal, and removed debris and heavy boulders accumulated during construction work on the highway at Seri Maroog Digdool and other places.

The road widening work under the four-lane highway project between Nashri and Banihal was going on till this evening. An official at Traffic Control Unit Ramban informed Greater Kashmir that traffic on the highway will resume on Thursday morning.

The traffic police headquarters Srinagar /Jammu in an advisory said that subject to better road condition the LMVs will be allowed from both sides on the highway on Thursday. “The Srinagar bound traffic stopped at Jakhani Udhampur will be allowed towards Srinagar in afternoon,” it said.
