Infected overseas traveller in Jammu sent to DRDO facility

Jammu, Dec 10: An international traveller in Jammu has tested COVID19 positive a few days after his return from France.

“The international traveller tested COVID19 positive today when he approached the hospital as he developed symptoms (fever),” said an official in the health department.

The official said that “The RTPCR test confirmed that the traveller was infected and accordingly, he was shifted to the DRDO Jammu for further treatment.”

He was tested at the Delhi Airport on his arrival from France but his report was negative, the official said. “In Jammu’s Satwari airport, he was tested again using RTPCR but again his test report was negative,” the official said.

However, with few days of his return to Nanak Nagar, the traveller approached the hospital for sampling as he developed symptoms of COVID19.

“We have sent his sample for genome sampling,” the official. “His family members will be tested for COVID19 five days later, the official said .

He informed that all the family members of two other international travellers have tested COVID19 negative in their sampling.

“The two international travelers had returned from Ireland and Italy. One is the resident of Shashtri Nagar and another is from Trikuta Nagar respectively. Presently, both are under treatment,” the official added.

However, the official said that their genome sample report is yet to come.

Meanwhile, the civil administration in Jammu has declared Lane Number 5, Buta Nagar in Paloura in the district as micro-containment zone following detection of four COVID19 positive cases.

“The infected persons had attended a marriage ceremony,” the official informed. The entire population of the locality will be tested for COVID19.

Earlier, three micro-containment zones have already been declared after the detection of COVID positive cases from these localities. As many as 25 COVID19 cases in Jammu district including 12 patients, 6 contacts and one international traveler.
