Charge-sheet produced against J&K Police Sub Inspector for accepting `1 lakh bribe: ACB

Jammu, June 24: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Rajouri, produced a charge-sheet against a Sub Inspector of the J&K Police for demanding bribe.

A statement of ACB issued here said that the accused Suresh Sharma of Saran, Gho Manahasak, Jammu, was produced before the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Rajouri under FIR No 02/2019 under section 5(1) (d) r/w section 5(2), 4-A of J&K PC Act Samvat, 2006 registered at Police Station ACB Rajouri.

The statement said that Sharma was the then Incharge Police Post, Rajouri.

The ACB statement said that on 6 September 2019, a written complaint was received in the office of SSP (PR) ACB Jammu from Ajay Pal Singh of Sant Market Jammu regarding the demand of bribe from him by Sharma for helping in investigation of a false case registered at Police Station Rajouri in which the maternal uncle of the complainant Sharanjit Singh of Sant Market Jewel Chowk Jammu was arrested by Sharma.

It said that the complainant visited Police Post Rajouri City on 5 September 2019 and enquired the matter from Sharma who demanded Rs 3 lakh from him for helping his uncle during the investigation of the case and that teen would otherwise harass his uncle in custody.

The ACB statement said that after negotiation Sharma agreed to accept Rs 1 lakh as advance and that the rest of the amount would be paid to him after the bail of Singh.

It said that on the receipt of the complaint, a case FIR No 02/2019 was registered and a trap team was constituted, which laid a successful trap.

The ACB statement said that the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 1 lakh in presence of independent witnesses and trap team members.

The statement said that the accused J&K Police Sub Inspector was arrested on the spot.

It said that he, however, was released on bail granted by the court.

The ACB statement said that the investigation conducted by it proved the allegations of corruption charges against the accused.

“After completing the investigation of case, sanction for launching of prosecution of the accused was also obtained from the competent authority and ACB produced charge-sheet against Sharma before the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court Rajouri on 23 June 2021,” the statement said.

It said that the next date of hearing had been fixed for 10 August 2021.
