Jammu: With the continuous surge in dengue cases, Jammu region has recorded 588 cases, most of which have surfaced from the densely-populated area of Jammu city and Kathua district’s Govindsar area adjoining Punjab.
The emerging situation has alarmed the Malariology department that has advocated community education and behaviour changes among the people to put an end to the transmission of the disease.
“A total of 588 dengue cases have been reported from Jammu region. Of these, 411 have been reported from residential areas of Sarwal, New Plot, Rehari, Resham Ghar Colony and other areas of Jammu city,” the officials of the Malariology department said.
The official said that Kathua district had recorded 84 cases, Samba 39, and Udhampur 11 cases.
The official said that of the total 588 cases, 29 were boys below 15 years of age and 343 were made adults – a total of 372 males while 13 were girls below 15 year of age and 203 adult females – a total of 216 females.
The official said that two cases had been reported from Kashmir while one case had also been reported from the Leh area of the cold desert region of Ladakh.
Meanwhile, the Malariology department urged the people to adopt precautionary measures to cut the chain of spreading dengue cases.
“There is an urgent need for intensive education and communication. We have started informing the people not to allow collection of water in and around their houses. The people should clean their homes as well as money plants, pots, and coolers,” the official said seeking help from the public. “Help us in educating the people as it has no specific treatment nor does it have any vaccine.”
