Lt Gen R P Singh relinquishes command of western army

Jammu: Lt Gen R P Singh, relinquished the command of the Western army on his superannuation on Sunday.

PRO Defence Lt Col Devender Anand, in statement, said, “Commissioned into 1 Mechanised Infantry (1 Madras) in 1982 and later having commanded 24 Mechanised Infantry (20 Rajput), the General had a distinguished military career spanning nearly four decades. During his service, he has held various Command appointments to include Command of an independent Armoured Brigade, a Division in Strike Corps in Western Command and a Strike Corps prior to taking over as the GOC-in-C, Western Command on August 1, 2019.”

According to an official statement, Lt Gen R P Singh held various prestigious staff appointments in the intense counter insurgency area (Kupwara), Army War College, South Western Command and Army Headquarters. He has had the distinction of serving with the United Nation Peace Keeping Force in Angola (Africa) as UN Military Observer.

Lt Gen R P Singh is a proud recipient of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished service to the Nation, the statement said.
