Srinagar-Jammu National Highway shut for 14 hours to carry out repairs

Ramban, Mar 9:  Vehicular traffic movement was suspended for 14 hours on both sides of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, for carrying out necessary road repair works at Dalwass and other places between Nashri and Banihal sectors, on Saturday evening.

“The vehicular movement will remain suspended until Sunday noon,” traffic authorities said.

Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police, National Highway, Ramban, Rohit Baskotra, said, “Traffic movement from both sides of the highway was stopped at 5 pm on Saturday. The movement of vehicles from Qazigund in Kashmir and Jakhani in Udhampur was stopped at 5 pm while from Nagrota in Jammu, it was stopped at 4 pm. Vehicular movement from Jammu to Ramban, Gool, Banihal, Srinagar and vice-versa was also suspended.”

He said, “Road traffic, especially that of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) between Nashri and Banihal, is being cleared.”

Earlier, the traffic authorities said, “Vehicular traffic will remain suspended between the Chenani-Nashri to Banihal-Qazigund (Navyug) tunnels from Saturday 10 pm till Sunday midnight.”

The authorities already issued orders stating that traffic would remain suspended for necessary repair works at Dalwass and other places between the Chenani-Nashri and Banihal-Qazigund tunnel segments of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, passing through Ramban district.

The traffic authorities said that the decision regarding the resumption of traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway would be taken after road clearance on Sunday.

“People are advised not to undertake journeys on the highway without confirming the status of the road on Sunday,” they said.
