Vital developmental projects shelved in Rajouri town

At a time when Peoples Democratic Party – Bharatiya Janata Party state coalition government is about to complete its half tenure in the office, a large number of people are aghast over government’s attitude for shelving some major developmental projects and failure of sitting legislators to get the works on these projects resumed.

Some major developmental projects were started in Rajouri town either by previous government or during Governor’s rule which were aimed for overall development of the town and redressal of grievances faced by masses.

Some of these projects include Construction of Sports Stadium in Kheora area of town, Mini Secretariat building in Rajouri town, Alternate Abdullah Bridge near Army Div Morh, New Bus Stand at Salani, Mother & Child Hospital at Gujjar Mandi.

Details revealed that work on Sports Stadium was started on the directions of former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah while work on mini secretariat was started by the previous government as of in other districts whereas mother and child hospital was also sanctioned by previous government and work on Alternate Abdullah Bridge was started after a Special Task Force of government visited Rajouri in previous government and demand of this bridge was put forth.

However, locals of the town have taken a dig at present government for turning blind eyes towards these projects.

“It’s sad to see that these major developmental projects of town almost stand shelved in present government and hardly anyone is paying attention towards these ” a local, Gagan Kumar said, who is not having affiliation with any political party.

“During election campaign, promises for earliest completion of these projects were made by all political parties but after coming in power, PDP – BJP have so far failed to show concern which can be gauged from the fact that except some work done on Alternate Abdullah Bridge, work on rest projects hasn’t been resumed while some sanctioned ones are yet to be started ” another local Muhammad Omar said.

Details further reveal that a number of medium level development projects of town and rural areas, started in time of previous governments stand shelved in this government for reasons better known to concerned departments.

“Works on number of vital road projects including Mubarakh Pura to Sohana Gali PMGSY road, Pathan Morha to Palullian PWD road, Kakora Manjakote road, Phali Brahmana road are either moving on snails pace or stand shelved,” details revealed.

Meanwhile, sources privy to ruling parties and district administration said that matter related to these projects was taken up before Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti during her recent visit to Rajouri and she has assured that steps will be taken to get the work on these projects resumed at the earliest.

Meanwhile, officials said that funds constraints is the hurdle in construction of Sports Stadium at Kheora and Rs 109.58 lacs is the liability on account of previous work.

Similarly, officials sharing details of project of new Abdullah bridge, said that the bridge stands timely completed except left side approach road one Kheora side and the road work could not be completed due to land disputes.
