COVID19: 2 deaths, 138 new cases in J&K

Srinagar: Two people died of COVID19 in Kashmir division today, the death toll of the viral pandemic in J&K now 4445. With Srinagar reporting 59 new cases, the positive count of the day in the UT stood at 138 on Tuesday.

One Srinagar man, 55 years of age succumbed to COVID19 at a GMC Srinagar hospital on Monday. The deceased, a senior doctor at the

   

hospital said, had an underlying illness and was brought to the hospital with COVID pneumonia on Saturday.

The patient, the doctor said, had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and was “very sick” when admitted. Another fatality was also from Srinagar, the deceased a 65-year old male who lost life at Chest Diseases Hospital. The patient was admitted with severe COVID19 pneumonia and sepsis, a doctor said.

With these two deaths, the death toll of COVID19 in J&K in the past nine days reached 13. Till date 4445 people have succumbed to the viral illness in the UT. No new case of Mucormycosis has been confirmed today, the official bulletin on the Pandemic said.

Today, Srinagar district had 59 new cases. The official active cases of the Capital district today stood at 597, the highest in J&K and constituting over 50 percent of the active cases in Kashmir. Of the 138 positive cases reported from J&K, Kashmir division had 138 cases and 32 were from Jammu division. Jammu division had its one of the highest case rise in the past one month today. District Baramulla and Budgam had 14 and 16 new cases respectively today.

In the past 24 hours, 102 people recovered from the infection today, 09 from Jammu division and 93 from Kashmir division.

The government brought up the scale of testing in J&K today, and the testing crossed the 40,000 mark. In the past 24 hours, 43504 tests were carried out in J&K. The positive percentage today stood at 0.3, in line with the positive percentage of the past one week.

In the past 24 hours, 77682 people were administered COVID19 vaccine in J&K, nearly 5000 of them had their first jab, the bulletin said, while the remaining 72,000 had their second dose. Just over 8000 people took the vaccine shot today.
