Noted Islamic scholar Mufti Faiz-ul-Waheed passes away

Jammu, June 1: Eminent Islamic scholar and Jamia Markzul Maarif Bhatindi Head, Mufti Faiz-ul-Waheed, passed away following a prolonged illness in a hospital here Tuesday morning. He was 55.

A noted religious personality and intellectual of the region, Mufti Faiz-ul-Waheed breathed his last at 7.30 am at ASCOMS Jammu. The hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr. Rajendra Ratan Pal, said several of his organs had stopped working and he was on a life support system.

   

Born at Dodhasan Bala in Rajouri district in 1966, he was the first Islamic scholar who had translated the holy Quran into Gojri language.

He had also authored several books including Siraj-um-Muneera in Gojri and Urdu.

His colleague and another noted Islamic scholar Mufti Sageer told the Greater Kashmir that he was hospitalised on the eve of Eid on May 12 after he complained of uneasiness due to fever and sore throat.

“He had been suffering from fever since May 3. However, he continued to perform his religious and scholastic duties despite his deteriorating health condition. After hospitalization, his RT-PCR test for Covid 19 was conducted and he tested negative. His situation did not improve and finally he breathed his last this morning. Even after demise, an RT-PCR test was conducted upon him yet he tested negative,” Mufti Sageer informed.

He was laid to rest at the Bhatindi graveyard at around 6:30 pm.

During his lifetime, the deceased scholar advocated Islamic way of life and simplicity. His work and contribution to the society as an intellectual won him great admiration in the community as well as in other sections of society.

Late Mufti Faiz-ul-Waheed is survived by his wife and five daughters, two of whom are married.

“His daughters, too, are following the foot-steps of their illustrious father and are engaged in religious and scholastic pursuits,” said Mufti Sageer.

Mufti Faiz-ul-Wahid had also memorised the holy Quran, a scholar, a mufti and a translator of the holy Quran. He was the patron of the seminary in Bathindi and used to deliver weekly Friday sermons at the Masjid in Bathinda, Jammu. Known for his social and religious services, Mufti Faiz-ul-Wahid was also the head of Maarif Public High School where more than 1000 children study.

After completing his education, he devoted himself to religious services and was considered a teacher of excellence.

Mufti Faiz-ul-Wahid was also known in public circles as a fearless orator and preacher. He had many virtues and distinguishing qualities. Mufti Faiz-ul-Wahid was one of the distinguished scholars of the famous Darul-uloom Deoband.

According to his students, the late Mufti Faiz-ul-Wahid was a powerful orator and had a great command over Arabic, Urdu and Gojri languages. The death of Head Mufti Jamia Markzul Maarif Bhatindi Jammu has been widely mourned in religious, political and social circles across J&K.
