Rajouri, Nov 5: Villagers in Tasyala and some adjoining hamlets near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district are jubilant as the government has started work for the construction of the first road in the area.
The border villagers are terming it a dream come true which would pave the way for their village’s connectivity with other areas through a road.
Tasyala is a village in Manjakote tehsil of Rajouri district located close to the LoC in Tarkundi sector area.
The people from this area have several times decried the lack of road connectivity in the region which is badly affecting the lives of the civilian population as people have to walk several kilometres to board a vehicle.
Sarpanch of Panjgrian Upper-A Panchayat, MumtazAkhtar said that the border villages in the region were facing a development deficit and there was a need for putting in massive developmental efforts to overcome this.
She said that Tasyala and other hamlets in the area located close to the LoC were devoid of road connectivity and a road built in its adjoining area under the NABARD was also incomplete due to lack of adequate funds.
“The people living in this area have always demanded road connectivity but the government did nothing to fulfill the important demand until recently when Deputy Commissioner (DC) RajouriVikasKundal held a public meeting in the area and this demand was put forth before him,” she said. “With the intervention of DC Rajouri, a new road project has been sanctioned and the dream of people for road connectivity is set to be fulfilled.”
She said that with the construction of this road, earth-cutting work for which has been started, many unconnected hamlets would get connected with the road link.
Qayoom Sheikh, a political leader from the area, while hailing the efforts of the district administration and District Development Council (DDC) said that the demand for the construction of the road was decades old but people were kept deprived of this facility.
He called for a special focus on filling gaps in the development of border areas and said that there was an urgent need to build many other roads to improve road connectivity in these areas.
DDC Rajouri Vice Chairman, Shabir Ahmad Khan while recounting efforts of the council and government to improve road connectivity said that the construction of this road was the much-needed work to facilitate the local population.
Officers of the PradhanMantri Gram SadakYojna (PMGSY) said that the name of this road was Nalla to Daryari via Tasyala and falls under the Rajouri division of PMGSY.
They said that the estimated cost of the project is Rs 8 crore and it would connect five villages and hamlets.
