From hunger to honour: Kashmir artist’s journey to Padma Shree recognition

A wood carver of Srinagar has seen many ups and down in life. His father Ali Mohammad Dar suffered massive losses in his business which prompted Ghulam Nabi to opt for wood carving art.
 
“During tough times we had nothing at home to eat. My uncle held my hand took me to a renowned artist in Nawab Bazar Srinagar where my skills started to shape and shine. Due to my efforts I have got recognition from J&K State as well,” Dar said.
