Pakistan’s former president Asif Ali Zardari was arrested onMonday from his residence here in the fake bank accounts case by the country’stop anti-corruption body, officials said.
A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team accompanied bypolice, including female officials, entered the PPP co-chairman’s house in F-8sector here after the Islamabad High Court rejected an application seekingextension in the pre-arrest bails of Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur inthe case.
However, his sister Faryal was so far not arrested.
The arrest warrants were issued on Sunday by the NAB, theanti-corruption watchdog, which is probing them in the fake bank accounts case.
The case pertains to the use of alleged fake bank accountsto keep money and transferring it out of Pakistan.
According to the NAB officials, the duo made transactions ofRs 150 million through alleged fake bank accounts.
The cases against Zardari are part of the investigationsbeing conducted by NAB in pursuance of the Supreme Court’s verdict in the moneylaundering of billions through fake accounts case.
